Joseph Mary Plunkett 1887-1916

Today, it is Plunketts turn. If you haven't noticed yet, I write about every leader from the Easter Rebellion on their birthday.
Plunkett is often put in the background, sort of way, when the heroes shall be remembered.
He was a scholar and a poet, with a dream for Ireland and the Irish that noone could take away from him. He also had a great interest in the Irish language.
In 1915 he joined Irish Republican Brotherhood and his training there became important in the crucial days in april 1916.
Though, he was not a soldier, but a man who was tired of being dominated by England with a brutality without comparison, and a man who loved his homeland. He faced execution after his brave actions like all the other leaders, but he didn't die in vain. As long as people around the world are being trampled to the ground, Mr Plunkett and his fellows will be remembered.

When he was awaiting his execution, he got married to his sweetheart Grace Gifford. they only got 15 minutes together as husband and wife, and she never re-married.
This song tells the story...

Happy Birthday!
